Within the last 100 years, since invented by Conrad Röntgen in Remscheid, Germany, this diagnostic method developed enormously.
Besides ultrasound, x-ray is one of the first diagnostic methods of choice at the shoulder joint.
Especially bony structures, like fractures, bony tumors, glenoid fragments, necrosis of the humeral head or calcific tendinits, loose bodies can be seen very good using the x-ray technique.
Normally x-ray pictures of the shoulder demonstrate not many pathological changes. Then other methods like CT or MRI or special x-ray views have to be used.
